Terms
The agreement between you and The Mantle when you make, send, buy or keep a card. By using the service you agree to it.
Last updated 23 September 2026.
Who can use it
Anybody can open a card they’ve been sent — no account needed. To make or buy one you need an account, and you need to be an adult: 18 or over. Children are part of a household, never account holders.
Keep your sign-in to yourself. If you’ve signed in somewhere you shouldn’t still be, you can sign out everywhere at once from your account.
Your card is yours
The words and photographs you put on a card stay yours. You give us permission to store them, resize photographs, show the card to the people who open its link, keep it on the mantles of the people you sent it to, and include it in exports. We use that permission only to run the service, never to advertise it, and it ends when the content is deleted — except for cards already sent, below.
We never write any part of your card. Nothing is generated, drafted, rewritten or “improved”. What arrives is what you wrote.
A sent card stays sent
Sending puts a card on other people’s mantles, and it stays there. It can’t be edited or recalled afterwards, and deleting your account doesn’t take it back from them. Read it through before you send it.
What you may put on a card
You’re responsible for what you upload and send. Don’t use The Mantle for:
- photographs or words you don’t have the right to use;
- anything unlawful, threatening, harassing or hateful;
- sexual content of any kind, and never any sexualised image of a child;
- anything meant to deceive the people you send it to;
- anything that tries to break, overload or get around the security of the service.
Only tag and name people you know, and think about the people in your pictures — a card can be forwarded. We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities, as the law requires.
Paying
Making a card is free. Sending one costs $60, paid once through Stripe when you send it. That covers one household’s card for one year, sent to as many people as you like. If you buy a card for somebody else, it covers their card for that year.
If a card you paid for is never used, you can ask for most of the money back — how much, and for how long, is on refunds.
Prices can change. A change never affects what you’ve already paid.
Keeping your cards
We mean for your mantle to last, and we’ll look after it carefully. We can’t promise the service will always be available without interruption, so you can export everything at any time — your cards and every photograph, in files that open without us. If we ever stop running The Mantle, we’ll give you notice and time to take your cards with you.
If something goes wrong
We may remove content, or suspend an account, that breaks these terms or puts other people at risk. Where we can, we’ll tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, tell us.
You can stop using The Mantle whenever you like, and ask us to delete your account.
The legal part
The Mantle is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we don’t make promises beyond the ones on these pages, and we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses. If we are liable to you for anything, it is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before. None of this limits rights the law doesn’t let us limit.
If these terms change, the date at the top changes too, and a significant change is described here. Using the service after a change means you accept it.
